MEP for Ireland South.

Grace O'Sullivan | MEP Ireland South | Green Party MEP

I’m Grace O’Sullivan.

I’m a mother of three from the beautiful seaside town of Tramore in Co. Waterford, on the South East coast of Ireland. I’m an environmental and peace activist, a Green Party MEP, an environmental education specialist and an ecologist. In the past I’ve been involved in a number of sustainable business developments.

I’m lucky enough to have led a rich and varied life.

I grew up beside the sea where, from an early age,

I was involved in water and nature-based activities, which led to work as a lifeguard and later work as a member of a sea and cliff rescue team. My early forays with the sea were also responsible for my proud title as Ireland’s first female surf champion!

At 21 I took up a job with Greenpeace, where I spent the next twenty years of my career. I travelled the seas and oceans of the world, taking part in actions for peace and climate justice. I was involved in a crew member of the Rainbow Warrior when it was bombed by the French Foreign Intelligence Service in 1985.

I continue my work as a peace and environment activist, these days within the political sphere. After serving for three years as a Senator in the Irish Parliament, I was elected to the European Parliament in 2019.

I’m a proactive member of important committees. I have served as the Greens/EFA group coordinator on the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (PECH) Committee, and am a member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee. I’m also a member of delegations on Mercosur and Palestine, a member of the Euro-Latin America Parliamentary Assembly and a member of a number of inter-groups and working groups.

I serve Green Party Spokesperson on the Marine.

I’m a member of the SDGs Alliance in the European Parliament and a member of Parliamentarians for the Global Goals.
